I think the biggest point that I can make about such a product is that it is professional, yet gives a lot of character to a room. You can get a nice black stand that looks fine, but it doesn't always fit in a traditional room. In a room with a fireplace made out of stone, you don't want to see some black table holding up your television. It just doesn't mesh. The oak gives you the proper feel that you should expect from a room like this. Another important value you will get from an oak TV stand is that is built from wood that lasts. You know that you're going to have this for years. This is the stuff that antique furniture is made of. Even though it will function for a long time, it still requires you to take care of it. It is important to keep it dusted and clean at all times. Keep it away from heaters, vents and other things that produce changes in the air temperature. Oak is very sensitive to temperature, so you can literally destroy it by having it next to a heating vent. You have a lot of choice when it comes to choosing what type of stand that you actually want. Just because it is made of oak, doesn't mean you're narrowing down your stand that much. Most televisions will rest on top of the stands, but you can also get the kind that has the television right inside of it. Typically you'll have drawers under the stand for storing things like your VCR/DVD player, stereo, movies, etc. The type of design that you get will inevitably determine how much room you have. There are other oak TV stands that don't even have drawers for you to put things in. Some are just basically shelves. Typically this isn't designed for putting movies and stuff like that. It's just meant for a few things like your stereo/dvd player. Some of us like having handle doors on the front, while others don't. What you need is probably the best way to go.
